OUR VISION
With over two decades of hospitality experience, we dreamt to craft a Guesthouse that feels like home for our guests. Our aim was to seamlessly blend modern comforts with the timeless charm of traditional Alentejo architecture and tranquility of village living, complete with a cozy courtyard—Pátio.
AL Mar Guesthouse sits in a corner building, strategically positioned along the road that leads straight to the Atlantic Ocean. The name "AL" carries a beautiful meaning; in Hebrew, it signifies "on top" or "on the," perfectly describing our geographic location on the way to "Mar", which means "sea" in Portuguese. Perched "on top" of the ocean, embraced by surrounding mountains, our guesthouse offers breathtaking views and access to picturesque hiking paths that unveil stunning vistas of the Atlantic Ocean.

Our apartments are located in São Luís, which is the perfect starting point to explore Alentejo. Away from the crowded tourist spots but still close enough for a visit, it's a peaceful haven to call home during your adventure. With the Costa Vicentina coastline just a hop away, you'll discover rugged cliffs, hidden beaches, and sunny sands in no time. Nearby, charming seaside towns like Vila Nova de Milfontes and Zambujeira do Mar beckon with stories waiting to be uncovered on every street. Feeling adventurous? Dive into the heart of Alentejo, where picturesque villages, vineyards, and olive groves invite exploration.

The location
São Luís is a small traditional Portuguese village where you can find cultural crafts such as pottery and weaving. The community here mainly lives from agriculture, livestock breeding, cork extraction, and timber. The village offers a bank, a pharmacy, an organic store, two supermarkets, a laundry, a bakery, traditional coffee shops, as well as two restaurants and a fresh market that offers local products.
